This was the album that introduced me to Elbow – my sister had long been a huge fan and it was initially Grounds for Divorce that drew my attention. One day like this was also a stand out track, possibly because it was rather over played by my sister and her boyfriend. A few days in York for a new years celebration actually led to them being banned from using the Jukebox because they kept selecting the song.
I always loved Starlings as the opening to The Seldom Seen Kid though. It has such a lovely dream like quality, a great showcase for the wonderful voice of Guy Garvey, complete with his northern tones.ย Punctuatedย by burst from the orchestra it’s such aย pleasantย and reflective song, one that is so easily enjoyable.
