This was the album that introduced me to Elbow – my sister had long been a huge fan and it was initially Grounds for Divorce that drew my attention. One day like this was also a stand out track, possibly because it was rather over played by my sister and her boyfriend. A few days in York for a new years celebration actually led to them being banned from using the Jukebox because they kept selecting the song.

I always loved Starlings as the opening to The Seldom Seen Kid though. It has such a lovely dream like quality, a great showcase for the wonderful voice of Guy Garvey, complete with his northern tones.Punctuatedby burst from the orchestra it’s such apleasantand reflective song, one that is so easily enjoyable.
