We are talking layers of electric guitars, massive drums, orchestral moments, a chorus so big you want to scream it at a room full of stranger – this is the full package. It has got the energy of a classic British rock anthem with the kind of cinematic production that makes you feel like you are already watching England lift the trophy. Big, bold, emotional and completely unashamed about it. We are HERE for it.
The duo behind it – David Matheson and Norm Sabourin – clearly know what they are doing. Norm has production credits alongside John Legend and a stack of other major artists. David has been in the songwriting and music world for decades. But what really gets us about this track is that it means something. David wrote it as a tribute to his dad Ronald, a Royal Navy veteran who lived through World War II and the Korean War and passed down stories of England and the greatest ever footballing moment in 1966. That is not a marketing angle: that is a real story, and you can feel it in the music.
At its core, Rise Up England (We Shall Never Surrender) is more than a football song. It is a celebration of heritage, perseverance, community and belief, a reminder that hope, pride and unity remain as powerful as ever when supporters stand together behind their team.
