I’m into everything, like, I listen to jazz, I listen to ambient music from Brian Eno, across the board. I got heavy into doom metal, so modern bands who are reviving the genre, everything from Windhand to Yarn and bands of that ilk. Basically taking what Black Sabbath did in the 70s and 80s and reviving it for a new generation as well as modern bands who are taking on the Nirvana mantle like Mets and bands like that.

Its not just old bands, its really anybody doing something soulful and relevant in the modern era, I’m a lover of rap music too, I listen heavily to like Gucci Mane, my favourite, and I’m about to put two giant framed pictures of him on my wall.

But Kendrick Lamar, he’s in the midst of a big battle with Drake and I, like many Canadians, despise Drake I don’t want to be represented by him. I don’t want to be represented by Justin Bieber either. I feel ashamed and I’m sorry, sorry to the whole world we exported these terrible terrible human beings – same with Celine Dion. I’ll say the same thing, I apologise. Terrible people, please buy Kendrick Lamar albums instead. For me the whole battle that’s going is artistry versus commerce. Kedrick Lamar represents high artistry, he wont the Pulitzer prize not by happend stance but for a reason, the guy actually has artistry and lyrics and Drake is just vapid, hide your daughter from him stuff.

I would say listen to Pimp a butterfly but if there were tracks King Kunta, that track, if you listen to that track and you don’t like it I’m gonna question you. It’s just undeniable, like James Brown, undeniable.

The thing is he has songs that get on to the radio but they’re kind of in spite of him because he releases very challenging concept albums. I’ve tried to get a few of my friends into him recently and they’re like “I’m just watching footy” and “I’m busy with this”. I get frustrated but like ok, I can break it down for you why this man is a genius but they don’t want to hear me. But basically, he’s a genius, a stone cold genius. Because of that it’s like getting into say Tom Waits, if you ever try to get somebody into Tom Waits dude has got like 30 albums, its almost impossible. You kinda need to be willing to sit down and take the time. But Kendrick Lamar is a genius. I really like how he stood up to the bully, stood up to Drake, systematically destroyed the man.
