I have wall to wall vinyl and if I had to pick just one and put it on all the way through, I really enjoy a band called Russian circles, they’re an instrumental band and by all fairness they’re a metal band. That being said they have a lot of melody, a lot of texture in their music and there’s even ambient stuff in there.
But yeah, they’re an instrumental band who play powerful powerful stuff you can dream to, you can write to.
They’ve been going quite a long time, they’ll probably appeal to like Tool fans, Mastodon fans stuff like that, but I think the fact that they don’t have a vocalist gives people room to dream over. But anyone getting into Russian Circles I’d suggest staring with albums like Memorial or Empros but all their stuff is incredible, they never fail.
They’e from the US, not sure which state, and I’ve seen them live 5 or 6 times they’re an incredible band.
It mostly the music live, they do definitely have serious impact when they play live. Their popularity has steadily organically risen as they’ve progressed and that showing how great of a band they are. They don’t have too many bells and whistles to their live show. They’re just a 3 piece, they’re kind of like, if you can imagine, Tool without the vocalist, so they have more going on. They’re just killing it, undeniably good. They don’t need a vocalist that’s their niche.
