It’s Bond time again and it seems to be more popular than ever, as we lead up to the 23rd film the new theme “Skyfall” has been released – sounding very much like a homage to the Shirley Bassey themes such as “Diamonds are forever” which is not surprising given Adele’s vocal stylings.
By far my favourite Bond theme is “Live and let die”, the most notable cover version of which is by Guns ‘n’ Roses. In fact the Guns ‘n’ Roses version was possibly the first I heard and the guitar on the track certainly gives it an enjoyable edgier feel to the original. It’s probably the first version that comes into my head when I think of the song.
The original though has something about it, a bit more bounce, and I prefer the McCartney vocals to Axl Rose. It’s one of those tracks that appears to come in vaguely related sections and meanders between them, like Bohemian Rhapsody. The intro doesn’t give any clue as to the song that’s about to come and all the sections add up to a great track, kicking in and out, stepping the tempo up and down without seeming disjointed in anyway.
