What are community authors?
Christian Hip Hop and R&B artist Gus continues to build momentum with the release of his latest single, “SMILE.” The song represents another important chapter in a career that has been shaped by faith, perseverance, and a passion for creating music that inspires people around the world.
Also known as August, Gus has been making music for more than a decade. Throughout his journey, he has invested heavily in his craft, recording professional singles, collaborating with dozens of independent artists, and developing a sound that blends Alternative Christian Hip Hop with R&B influences.
His musical journey officially began with the release of “Growing Stronger” in 2016. While the song gained positive attention on SoundCloud, Gus always believed it deserved a larger audience. In 2026, he re released the track with a refreshed sound, accompanied by a new visual that is scheduled to arrive soon.
Over the years, Gus has created more than ten professional mixtapes along with several major projects that showcase his growth as an artist. One of his standout releases, “GIFTED AS A RAPPER,” served as a tribute to Chance the Rapper, an artist he greatly admires for both his creativity and his Christian faith.
His debut album, “DA FINALE,” was released during Christmas 2022 and quickly became a fan favorite. Supporters praised the album for its originality and artistic growth, with many calling it one of his strongest bodies of work. The project’s lead single, “WWJD?,” reached the Number 1 position on the Christian charts on iTunes in Europe, encouraging Gus to continue expanding the project through several companion releases, including “Backstage (Da Remasters),” “The Opening Act (Da Live Shows),” “The Final Act (The Remixes),” the “Commentary Edition,” and the original UnitedMasters Edition.
For Gus, “DA FINALE” represented a major turning point. Built from the ground up alongside talented collaborators, the project featured original production, lyrics, and visuals that reflected his creative vision and dedication to excellence.
He followed the album with “TEN” in 2023, a project that many listeners have described as his “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy era.” The release demonstrated his willingness to explore new ideas while continuing to grow both musically and creatively.
Beyond his music, Gus has continued building GNE, his faith based label, artist collective, and creative business operating under the CRW. Through partnerships including Grind by Faith Music Group, he hopes to create opportunities for artists while developing annual college tours and a future festival experience at Disney World.
Looking ahead, Gus is focused on his upcoming project, “SMILE,” which he describes as his first official studio album. He hopes the project will include collaborations with Ye and other notable artists as he continues expanding his reach within the music industry.
His performance schedule is also continuing to grow. Over the coming year, Gus plans to perform at a variety of live events, including Coast 2 Coast LIVE showcases, surprise appearances, and other opportunities that could lead to larger touring experiences.
Currently under the management of TRILL Entertainment, Gus is also working toward securing a multi album recording agreement with EMPIRE, a company with which he has already established a professional relationship.
His online audience continues to expand as well. With more than 315,000 followers across his platforms, Gus hopes to reach one million supporters through new collaborations, strategic partnerships, and increased exposure across major media platforms.
Fans can also look forward to another exciting release this October with “BIG JOZN: LIVE AT THE JOYFUL NOIZE.” The project will feature live band performances, ticketed events, and new presentations of some of his most popular songs.
Community remains one of the most important parts of Gus’s mission. Through JOZN CITY, he hopes to build more than just a fan base by creating a welcoming community where people genuinely connect through music, faith, and shared experiences. As part of this vision, he plans to travel throughout cities including New York City, St. Louis, Chicago, Los Angeles, the San Francisco Bay Area, and locations across Texas to personally meet supporters while distributing promotional materials and inviting people to become part of the growing community. His sister will serve as the community manager as they work together to grow the movement.
Gus also continues refining his extensive catalog of music and visuals with the help of experienced engineers, preparing many of his earlier releases for a wider audience after originally creating them on limited budgets.
Outside of music, Gus is expanding into acting. He appears in the upcoming film “I MISS MY OLD DOG ELLIOT,” scheduled for release this Christmas on Hulu, where he takes on the challenging role of a character on the autism spectrum. He has also hinted that another major project is currently in development and will be announced at a later date.
“I want SMILE to sweep the Dove Awards when the time comes and to be considered for a Grammy. I’m standing on faith. Please come into agreement with me,” says Gus.
He also shared a message of gratitude for those who have supported him throughout his journey.
“Shout out to everyone who never gave up on me and continues to pray for me. You are the foundation of everything I do that glorifies God.”
