Genius coloured by addiction
Alice in chains | Alice in chains
3 October 2024
When it comes to recommending Alice in chains I would go with their unsung catalogue because everyone praises stuff like Dirt and Jar of Flies and those are both masterpieces. But I like to go with their self titled album from, I believe, 1995 and the interesting things about that album is that’s kind of when Layne Staley was dying, dying of heroine use at the time but still he managed to put out these venomous vocal performances. The performances, you could tell they were coloured in some way by addiction and they were troubled but that added to the

On behalf of Canada, I apologise
Kendrick Lamar | To pimp a butterfly
25 September 2024
I’m into everything, like, I listen to jazz, I listen to ambient music from Brian Eno, across the board. I got heavy into doom metal, so modern bands who are reviving the genre, everything from Windhand to Yarn and bands of that ilk. Basically taking what Black Sabbath did in the 70s and 80s and reviving it for a new generation as well as modern bands who are taking on the Nirvana mantle like Mets and bands like that. Its not just old bands, its really anybody doing something soulful and relevant in the modern era, I’m a lover of

Instrumental metal to dream to
Russian Circles | Memorial
17 September 2024
I have wall to wall vinyl and if I had to pick just one and put it on all the way through, I really enjoy a band called Russian circles, they’re an instrumental band and by all fairness they’re a metal band. That being said they have a lot of melody, a lot of texture in their music and there’s even ambient stuff in there. But yeah, they’re an instrumental band who play powerful powerful stuff you can dream to, you can write to. They’ve been going quite a long time, they’ll probably appeal to like Tool fans, Mastodon fans

The Beatles are just part of life
The Beatles | I want you (She's so heavy)
10 September 2024
Nirvana was probably my first introduction to a type of music I loved but to be fair The Beatles are pretty much tied as my favourite band. My initial introduction was through my parents dancing round to early Beatles in the living room. Now, basically over the years, I’ve pretty much studied The Beatles, I’ve grown to love all of their stuff. To me they’re sacred, they’re like the pope to me. They can do no wrong. Put on any Beatles for me, god bless you, I love it all. There’s moments on several albums but possibly the best for

Music that saved my life
Nirvana | Bleach
27 August 2024
I’ve been in many bands over the years, most of my bands have been metal / prog initiated but Post Death Soundtrack has always been and industrial, experimental band, except for the most recent album. I just decided to go in a more organic direction so following the artists that initially inspired us. So Nirvana, Alice in Chains, merging with modern artists like Russian Circles and Yarn – putting it together in one pot and seeing how it comes out, that was the goal. I think it turned out pretty well, we did the best we could, I’ve already started
