Released just before Christmas in 1987, The Pogues’ Fairytale of New York was sent straight to Number 2 in the charts. The Pogues are a punk band, fronted by the late Shane MacGowan. This one might raise some eyebrows. If you read my previous submission where I named Boney M’s – Mary’s Boy Child as my favourite Christmas song, then I’m hoping it comes to no surprise that my second favourite is just as left field! When Christmas rolls around, the same question is asked each year; what’s the best Christmas song? There’s no correct answer, music taste is subjective. That being said, you’ll often hear the same suggestions: All I want for Christmas Last Christmas Jingle Bell Rock None of these are my favourite though. Oh no no no.
