Hi – It’s Dave here at Mumubl.com, welcome to our recommendation email where we give you some tips on what’s great to listen to and watch.

This past few weeks has been a catch up on some things that have been sat in my watch / listen queue for quite a while now. It’s amazing how quickly stuff builds up and it’s constantly getting added to. Hopefully this newsletter will pull out some bits that you might not have gotten round to and pop them to the top of your list.

In this edition

DRUMMING MASTERCLASS / NORAH JONES / WE ARE LADY PARTS / THE ART OF LONGEVITY / DADA DRUMMER ALMANCH / MUMUBL.COM

Taylor Hawkins drumming masterclass

There’s every chance in the wake of Taylor Hawkins recent death you saw this being shared on social media much like I did. It’s been sat in an open browser tab waiting for me to take the 45 minutes to watch it. It’s definitely worth it if you’re a Foo Fighters fan -100%. Even if you aren’t though, you might not find the bits about the band interesting but listening to Taylor dissect other drummers styles is fascinating insight. It’s not available on iplayer but it is on the 6music YouTube channel.

Norah Jones – Come away with me deluxe edition

It’s 20 years since the fantastic Norah Jones album “Come away with me” found it’s way into record collections across the globe. A spellbindingly gorgeous mix of country, jazz and a few other genres it’s possibly one of the last huge selling physical records. For the 20th anniversary there’s a deluxe edition release that comes with a plethora of extra tracks and alternative recordings from the sessions that came together to form the album. An accompanying updated set of liner notes / booklet is also available with the CD and LP edition, that’s if you’re willing to cough up the £160 for the 4LP edition, the CD edition coming in a little better at £30.

We are Lady Parts

It’s 20 years since the fantastic Norah Jones album “Come away with me” found it’s way into record Again things that have been on my watch list for ages I finally dove into the Channel 4 comedy “We are Lady Parts”. The story of an all female Muslim punk band trying to land a gig. It’s a strong Channel 4 comedy but the songs aren’t that bad either, a few nice tight 2 minute punk songs and a nice little cover of “9 to 5” are worth a listen. You can find it on All4, Channel 4’s catch up service.

The art of longevity

My quick, almost obligatory, shout out to “The Art of Longevity” podcast from The Song Sommeller, which has started strongly with it’s fourth season talking so far to members of Teenage Fan Club, Belle & Sebastian and the aforementioned Norah Jones. Check it out on your podcast device of choice.

Dada Drummer Almanach

What on earth does that title mean you may be thinking. It’s actually the name of a Substack publication from Damon Krukowski. I’ve been reading The New Cue from substack for a while and not so long ago had a look round at other recommendations from their service. Dada Drummer Almanach has provided some great thought provoking writing on music and the music business, certainly around Spotify and streaming and I’d highly recommend you check it out.
